PROPOSAL SUMMARY

Santa Cruz is a unique and beautiful city, one that holds a special place within the rich heritage of the California Missions. But though its very name attests to the holy wood of the cross, there is need once more for a renewed missionary fervor to take root, to offer in a fresh, non-threatening and yet non-compromising manner, the alternative to the flourishing ‘alternative’ lifestyles it is now most renowned for.

While many people do not feel comfortable going into a Catholic Church, either because they have left their childhood faith to seek within other traditions, or know nothing of the Church but think they do, these same people do not harbor such inhibitions in seeking a quiet place of refreshment and reflection.

The coffee house is once again the modern day meeting place of choice for a diverse cross-section of humanity, as the ‘aromatic dens’ of the past played a similar, though less corporately determined, role. While there are many chain and independent coffee houses that do business in Santa Cruz County, there is one incarnation that has yet to emerge, but has the potential to fill an immense void and provide unique benefits to the community. One which provides a high quality alternative, both in the refreshments offered, and the environment and encounter it seeks to foster.

Paraphrasing the words of Chesterton, 3 Days will be a meeting place melding the ideas of wonder and welcome, for all people, whatever stage they find themselves, or we find them, in the great pilgrimage of life.
